Conference: Forms of Work-based Learning for Vocational Education and Training of Students in Republic of Croatia

The Conference Forms of work-based learning for vocational education and training of students in Republic of Croatia – state of play, challenges and perspectives, took place on 4 April 2017 in Zagreb at congress centre FORUM.

The conference was the first conference of the Cap4App project “Strengthening the capacities of the chambers and partners to help SMEs to engage in apprenticeship” that is co-funded by Erasmus+ programme of EU. The project coordinator is the Croatian Chamber of Economy, and partners are South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Croatian Employment Service, University of Zadar, Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts Zagreb.

The aim of the conference was to discuss opportunities and advantages related to work-based learning by bringing together national representatives from business sector, vocational schools and public authorities. The conference identified how enterprises can be best supported in implementing work-based learning.


Mr. Želimir Kramarić, Vice President for International Affairs and EU from the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Mrs. Dijana Vican, rector of the University of Zadar and Mrs. Sonja Holocher-Ertl, Austrian Trade Commissioner for Croatia at Advantage Austria welcomed the speakers.

 
 

Mr. Božo Pavičin, Project Manager of the Cap4App project and Senior Advisor of the CCE briefly presented the Cap4App project: "Strengthening the Capacities of The Chambers And Partners to Help SMEs To Engage in Apprenticeship".

Mrs. Maja Ljubić, Assistant Director of SEECEL presented the results of the research conducted in the first phase of the project, on the attitudes of vocational schools and companies toward the introduction of dual education in the Republic of Croatia. 119 vocational schools and 691 companies were surveyed. "Both schools and companies have expressed a clear need for training of mentors. The school respondents expressed a somewhat more positive view of non-financial support and assessed good co-operation and stakeholder communication, and schools and companies showed high readiness (schools 72.3 percent, 79.7 percent) of the participation in the work-based learning program, with 57 percent of companies pointing out that the state would have to bear the costs of student fees" she said.


 
Education and training from an Austrian perspective was presented by Kurt Schmid from the Institute for Human Resources Development in the Economy.
 
 

Previously published report "Analysis of current situation of apprenticeship scheme in Croatia” was presented at the conference, as well as the results of the survey conducted in the first phase of the project.
